Oxford Traffic Filter Meeting

Jointly hosted by Walton Manor Residents Association and
Oxfordshire Liveable Streets

Monday March 25th
at 6pm
at D’Overbroecks Hall, Leckford Road.

Whether we like it or not, the traffic filters are coming, scheduled now for November 2024. Do we fully understand how they will work, especially how they will affect people in the Walton Manor area? This meeting, jointly hosted by WMRA and Oxfordshire Liveable Streets (OLS), will enjoy a practical, jargon-free explanation of the filters and their impacts from Zuhura Plummer of OLS. She will focus on what their purpose is, how they'll work locally, what kind of journey adjustments you might have to make, and how to apply for free passes and exemptions. Hopefully, she will be able to allay some of our fears.

The meeting will also hear from Carey Newson of Low Carbon Oxford North about the Oxford Car Free Challenge, a research project they are running in which a group of normally car-dependent residents of North Oxford to go car-free for three weeks. The idea is to help understand the difficulties and identify possible support.

If you wish to reserve a seat, book here. Otherwise just turn up on the night.

Oxclean 2024

Please join us on Saturday March 2nd from 9am -12pm for the annual Oxclean event. If you have any spare time that morning to help residents get our local area tidied up ready for Spring then we would be really grateful. High-Vis vests and Litter pickers are provided but bring your own gloves. All welcome - meet at 46 Plantation Rd.

Planning updates

The application to convert the canalside joinery workshop at 1A Southmoor Road (the former Hutchins and Green builders yard) for residential and build a new large house has been amended. The changes are minor and don’t address concerns about the scale and intrusiveness of the development. We have objected again, along with the St Margaret’s Area Society and a lot of neighbours. We have asked our Ward Councillors to ensure that the application is ‘called in’ to the Planning Committee so that the objections are fully considered.

On 179 Kingston Road, the former Party Shop, St John’s and their architects are working on a revised redevelopment scheme. WMRA have been consulted on a preparatory version. There does appear to have been some attempt to take account of the concerns previously raised. A new application is likely to be made in the next month or two. We will update residents at that time.

With best wishes
Walton Manor Residents' Association
