Oxfordshire residents without off street parking can apply for a scheme that allows them to charge an electric vehicle (EV) outside their own home.
The pilot project, being delivered by Oxfordshire County Council, is set to accelerate the transition to cleaner, greener electric vehicles. It will initially benefit 500 residents who don’t have their own driveway.
EV charging cable channels are an affordable and practical solution for people without off street parking who want to switch their petrol or diesel car to an electric one.
They allow the cable from a home charger to safely cross the pavement and connect to a kerbside EV without causing a trip hazard.
The project – believed to be the largest of its kind in the UK – benefits from a £700,000 government grant. The funding will significantly reduce the cost of the EV charging cable channel and its installation for the first 500 residents to successfully apply through the council’s website.

Some members of the current WMRA Committee are retiring at the next AGM in November. We are therefore looking for replacements.
The Committee consists of up to ten residents of the Walton Manor area and meets four to six times a year. This is usually on a Sunday evening for about an hour at someone’s house, over a glass and some nibbles. Proceedings are informal. Occasionally we invite a Councillor or some other well-informed visitor to join us.
The agenda is usually straightforward (please check our website (www.waltonmanor.org) to see Committee Minutes). Those members who have taken on specialist roles report on their areas (eg planning applications, traffic and roads, information, social events), and other topics are raised.
The Association aims to provide helpful information to local residents on any issue that may affect them. It also fulfils a social role by organising occasional get togethers and producing a periodic newsletter / maintaining a notice board in the area. It has no powers to affect local policy but regularly delivers feedback to elected Councillors and occasionally Council staff on issues that could cause or are causing local concern.
If you would be interested in finding out more, please do drop us a line via email at waltonmanorra@gmail.com. We will be holding elections for the new Committee at this year’s AGM in November and will need a short statement giving us a some information about you and your interest in joining the Committee ahead of that meeting. We are particularly interested to hear from anyone with technical/IT skills who is used to working with common workplace software packages and also anyone with event planning experience.
With best wishes
WMRA Committee
